Good things take time. That’s what WYSDOM GIVEN might have thought, too, and allowed themselves seven years from the band’s foundation to this first 3-track EP.

In contrast, I was relatively quick writing this review. This is actually quite unusual for me, but the unaffected and honest music of the Swedes made it really easy for me. This is old school (Heavy) Metal, that focuses on what really matters: riffs, melodies and chroruses.

The songs mostly sound like NWOBHM, sometimes like ICED EARTH, but especially like METALLICA and IRON MAIDEN. The excellent production grants every instrument the presence it deserves and fortunately even emphasizes the bass. On top, the dark songs gain dynamic through the many harmonies. Singer Daniel Myvall Hedman is very likely a fan of James Hetfield, but his timbre also reminds me of Chris Black (HIGH SPIRITS, PROFESSOR BLACK, etc.) and a little bit of John Baizley (BARONESS).

If you want to get an idea of the potential of this band, I recommend the highlight of the EP “In a Time When Victory is Dying”, because this song brings together all the qualities of the Swedes in epic five and a half minutes. But each of the three songs is a highlight in itself and reveals a different facet of the songwriting qualities of this band.

We should keep an eye on WYSDOM GIVEN and sincerely hope for another musical sign of life, perhaps even in the form of an album. But please, don’t let it take seven years again!
