After only two and a half minutes, when the initially folky, then rocking intro is ended by a triangle to unleash the first Black Metal riffs on the listener, I was pretty sure that one of the highlights of the year 2017 could rotate in my player. Black Metal triangles are war!

The young band from Denmark describes their style as “epic blackened heavy metal with lots of catchy moments”, and that hits the nail pretty much exactly on the head. The boys combine classic Heavy Metal (for example in the guitar solos) with progressive Classic Rock and raging Black Metal of the first and second waves.

The twin guitars and melodies are often reminiscent of the notorious THE DEVIL´S BLOOD, whereas the vocals sound grumpy and yet understandable (and often remind of Mikael Stanne of DARK TRANQUILITY). The dynamics of the songs fluctuate between quiet acoustic passages, headbanger riffs and dark frenzy. Neither the seven-minute quasi-instrumental “The Eye Of The Devil”, nor the longest track “Domus Mysterium” with its over 13 minutes are boring. The songs of this album are simply too interesting and are constantly surprising the listener with details.

Only two things are lowering the rating a bit, which would be the too minimalistic cover artwork (they should have used the artwork of the poster that comes with the booklet) and the feeling that the already very good songs could be tightened up in some places.

So the first impression remains. This is definitely one of the highlights of the year 2017!
